‘There is a correlation between income/wealth and consumption of energy’

I’ll bite: what is it?

There are no low energy, rich countries. I should have been clearer about the subject being countries.

It’s easy to be unconcerned about crime if you live behind walls, especially if you’re Machiavellian and narcissistic.

In his crisis of confidence speech in July 1979, President Carter says that a crisis of confidence in progress and the future of America is a threat to democracy.

He also says:
We were a nation of the ballot not the bullet until the assassination of JFK MLK RFK

Sound as a dollar was an expression of absolute dependability

Washington DC is an island. The gap between voters and government has never been so wide.

We must have faith in the future of this nation

We can regain our confidence.

Other highlights:
Point three: To give us energy security, I am asking for the most massive peacetime commitment of funds and resources in our nation’s history to develop America’s own alternative sources of fuel – from coal, from oil shale, from plant products for gasohol, from unconventional gas, from the sun.

Point four: I’m asking Congress to mandate, to require as a matter of law, that our nation’s utility companies cut their massive use of oil by 50 percent within the next decade and switch to other fuels, especially coal, our most abundant energy source.

Why are these idiots in the political class always banging on about democracy: “it’s a threat to our democracy” “democracy dies in darkness.”

My high school civics teacher would have smacked me upside the head if I referred to this country as a democracy. The founders of this country knew full well that democracy is a terrible system. John Adams had a couple of thoughts on this:

I do not say that democracy has been more pernicious on the whole, and in the long run, than monarchy or aristocracy. Democracy has never been and never can be so durable as aristocracy or monarchy; but while it lasts, it is more bloody than either.

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.

Of course, my favorite quote about democracy is from H.L. Mencken:

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

I hope everyone is enjoying Our Democracy.™
