Sad to see the once majestic sea power reduced to this.
Keep in mind – this is the aircraft carrier for which England has no aircraft. (Economy measure)
Not unlike the PoW himself. Maybe both should be retired, mothballed?
Warning @johnwalker and @jacksarfatti, set your scam detectors to their least sensitive range to avoid damage.
I have noticed that about half the youtube videos I (start to) watch breathlessly tell viewers that what it is touting is the latest “game changer”. The only game which has actually changed, though, is youtube and its Goog-ley Party Line offerings and censorship. That has definitely changed the game that counts.
“Essentially, a vacuum tube setup allows the magnetically levitated pods to travel at a faster speed than trains, cars and jets.”
The only limitation is that journeys will be restricted to the length of time for which the average Canadian can hold his breath in a vacuum.
That’s something they should test using their Prime Minister.
No, we need to have complete results. PUt the entire damned government–bureaucrats included–in the bloody thing. Hell, let’s expand this to include US politicians and bureaucrats too.
It’s not a scam, it’s just a lot more expensive than they are claiming. You have to have an elevated guideway or else your land acquisition costs will kill you. It’s going to be expensive enough to acquire the land for the guideway support posts. Plus, how do you build it? You have to acquire at least a temporary right of way to bring in the tubes, unless you’re clever enough to be able to build the next support post using the tube you’ve built so far, and then haul in the next tube on top of the existing tubes.
That’s the hardest problem to solve. Making a vehicle run inside a tube is a no-brainer (relatively).
There are tons of problems to be solved, but not the evidence of solving them.
They filed a patent application 2017-09-08. Assume that encapsulated the state of their development. Anything filed more than 18 months ago would have also published. So that’s 2021-02-29 ish. So we have at least a 3.5 year dead zone after 2017-09-08 of no patent application filing. That’s a Nikola-class or Theranos-class disparity between the hype and the patent portfolio.
It is many a year since I worked in a lab. But even at lab scale and lab conditions, maintaining vacuums in apparatus was a delicate task. The LIGO apparatus in Louisiana maintains vacuum in tubes that are in the range of five miles long – a far step from maintaining vacuum between Calgary & Edmonton. And then there has to be an efficient way of inserting & extracting the pods from the vacuum tube, and keeping people alive inside the pod while in the vacuum. Those challenges seem interesting, but none of that sounds trivial.
Indeed!
Is this not a fine pickle for an allegedly 1st world country to find itself in.
Senseless laws outlawing things that five minutes ago were perfectly normal and legal only makes criminals out of law abiding citizens when those citizens realize that the laws are stupid.
A similar situation is going on in Delaware too.
