In 1984, Congress stopped allowing small business owners to take a tax deduction for the purchase price of cars used for work. But the bill included a giant loophole: To protect those who need a heavy-duty vehicle (think farmers or construction workers), Congress made an exception, known as Section 179, for cars that weigh over 6,000 pounds when fully loaded with passengers and cargo. Today such behemoths are eligible for a tax deduction of up to $30,500, while business owners who opt for a smaller car can claim nothing at all. [source]

Seems reasonable. After all, what is the value of a human life?

If I understand that rather ambiguous graph, it seems to say that the lighter a vehicle in which one is travelling, the more likely a person is to die in the event of a two-vehicle crash. Intuitively, that makes sense. Thus using the tax regime to encourage people to drive “behemoths” is saving lives.

I wish The Internet Archive stayed closer to their mission of archiving the internet and not to trying to run public libraries and publishers out of business through an overly eager reading of the law.

I’m going to blame immigrants because I want to be xenophobic

Clippy :paperclip: says: “It looks like you’re trying to be xenophobic. Would you like help?” :cowboy_hat_face:

People started driving crazily during COVID when the cops drastically reduced traffic stops. Car repair costs have also gone up even faster than inflation. Health and life insurance are said to have had major losses since 2021. Some say that these losses are being covered by auto insurance increases, which have lower elasticity of demand: people have to drive to go to work, school and get groceries, and you can be jailed for driving without car insurance. Long COVID and vaccine injuries often cause transient spells of reduced consciousness as well as persistently reduced mental functioning, which no doubt contributes to increased car crashes. And, yes, a disproportionately large fraction of illegal immigrants and “asylum seekers” are bad drivers.

It started before COVID but this is how you usher a city into chaos. Which was the point.

If illegal aliens didn’t drive, no one would need uninsured motorists coverage

Added: I gathered a bunch of testimonies from residents of Springfield, Ohio, about migrants and their food choices. Maybe David Muir wants to go investigate instead of quoting the city manager. | Not the Bee
